A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens at 11:00am on April 17th at Tea’s Me Cafe. (NOTE: this is a Saturday… We all loved Tea’s Me last time and they aren’t open evenings, so April will be a Saturday meeting.)

Pride and Prejudice


PnP brought SEVEN of us together on Monday! (Well, actually 8, if you count the BRAND new little guy in attendance! He slept oh so peacefully thru our chatter.) Jane Austin has been a popular author in our club! She brings the biggest turnouts! (ahh, Christmas decor in the background! Love it!)


On a scale of 1-10 (as my sister says, “if there actually are books that are 10’s”) I’d give PnP a 9.5. The other Austin book we read, Persuasion, is still my favorite, scoring a 10 on my scale.) I had such a good time at the cafe with all these wonderful ladies I wish we met once a week!


I’ll admit I am no expert on books. I actually didn’t like reading much as a child or teen. It wasn’t until I got into my mid-twenty’s that I jumped on the reading bandwagon! Now I feel like I can’t get enough! I love our group because once we gather and start talking about the books I learn so much more about what I just read and all I missed! There are some pretty smart ladies who attend.


Cookies and drinks had by all. And of course a little TableTopics to go around!


I had a fantastic night out! Hope to see you all back next month for The Code of the Woosters by PG Wodehouse on Monday December 14th at 7:00pm at my house. Email me if you need directions. (It’s also our annual Christmas Party!)

October’s book

We were small in numbers for our meeting on Monday, but it was a good time of muffins, iced mango tea and of course talk of Asher Lev!

If you couldn’t make it and still like to hear some discussion on it head over to Midday Connections Book Club site. They read the book back in November of 07 and you can still access the audio archives for it and hear the broadcast.

Our next book for October is The Hound of the Baskervilles by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. If you aren’t familiar with this author… maybe Sherlock Holmes will ring a bell! It’s a mystery featuring the one and only Holmes and Dr Watson.

Recap:
Yesterday was a beautiful day for our discussion!! I very much enjoyed our time and of course all the yummy food! (I think I’m still stuffed from it all!) We touched on everything from phantom of the opera to the turkey sex chapter to gardening. Everyone was impacted by the book and are planning more gardening of their own!! I would really encourage you to read it sometime! All of us are counting the days until more Farmer’s Markets open! And please, anyone who knows where to get those blue potatoes mentioned, let us know! We’d love to try them!!

What’s Next: The Shack
This time we only have one month to read it. May 16th will be our next discussion at the park. I’ve almost finished it and can’t wait to see how it turns out! I would definitely suggest not judging this book “by it’s cover.” My challenge to you would be to read it for yourself and not to take others opinions of it as your own.

Mama Bear’s

Saturday at Mama Bears was fun and cozy! I’m so excited this location was suggested and can’t wait to go back! I would definitely recommend it to any of you! Such a nice place with a comfy atmosphere and great food and drinks.


This was our smallest crowd yet with just three of us being able to attend. And it was our first meeting since getting my TableTopics so it was neat to be able to pick a question and talk about it. We also had the discussion questions I sent out previously, so we were not short of things to discuss.

This next book (Animal Vegetable Miracle –but be sure not to get Animal Vegetable MINERAL… this isn’t the book we’re reading 🙂 ) I can’t even describe how excited I am to re-read this book! Thank you all so much for coming last night! I had a wonderful time and hope you did too! Telephone-Pictionary turned out to be a great hit! For those that weren’t able to make it, don’t worry I think we should play that one again!! I can’t remember the last time I laughed that much or that hard! seriously! 🙂

I have several ideas for more fun get-togethers in 09! I actually have a list of many different kinds of activities we could do this coming year, so stay tuned! I might even throw in some “1 month” books instead of taking two months to read.

Some of you mentioned you don’t always know when I post here… so here are some options to be sure you never miss an entry.

1. You can use the igoogle home page and sign up for this site via an RSS feed. (This isn’t as complicated as it may sound. I can give you more detailed instructions if you need them.)

2. Google Reader -similar to #1 but this doesn’t have any fancy widget options, just RSS feeds.

3. Email updates -I can add your email so your are automatically sent an email anytime I post. (This is an easy options but I have a limit of 10 ppl that I can add to receive emails.)

The Rest of God -Restoring your Soul while Restoring the Sabbath

I still have 2 chapters to go, but this has been an awesome and informative book! If haven’t had the chance to read it yet I would really recommend it. Especially during this busy time of year! In the introduction Buchanan states that in this book he’s trying to “help us think differently about time and eternity, rest and work, food and play –to change and renew our minds about such things.”

I bought my copy of the book and a few ppl have already asked to borrow it, so let me know if you are also interested.

November’s book

This morning, over a very yummy brunch, we discussed Monday the Rabbi Took Off. It was a fun mystery that took place in Israel soon after the 6 day war. It made me a lot more interested in learning about Israel and its history! Not to mention keeping up with the news and goings-on over there. It also made me a tad jealous of the rabbi for getting to take a 3 month sabbatical!

In November we’ll meet and discuss our next book: Persuasion by the popular English novelist Jane Austen.

(date and location of our next meeting to be determined, it might be a bit cold for the park)
