Monte Cristo recap

Monday night we discussed The Count of Monte Cristo! By far our longest book… but what a great adventure story! I loved the movie so when this book was suggested I was all about it! …But let me just say they are not the same story. And like normal, the book was MUCH better!

If you weren’t able to finish it all… abridged or not… I would highly recommend pressing on! I like to think I’m pretty good at guessing “what’s gonna happen next”… but Dumas kept me guessing with surprises all along the way!

We had another great turn out with 8 ladies joining us!

Many new faces! And I think they might be hooked and coming back for more!

I wish every week was book club week! I love getting out and doing a girly thing like the book club with friends!

Just when we were deep in discussion we realize that Paradise had been closed for 20 min! They weren’t kicking us out but they were definitely cleaning and shutting things down.

A few were late to arrive… like poor Nicole knocking on the window letting us know she couldn’t get in! Never fear Borders around the block was open until 9:00. We finished up there… where they did eventually KICK. us. out.

Thank you everyone for coming!
Happy reading!

The Count of Monte Cristo

I’ve heard from many of you and very excited we have so many reading The Count! I’m still “bookin it” to try to get it finished by next Monday!

We’ve had a change of location and are now meeting at Paradise Bakery and Cafe. Still at 7:00pm and still on Monday the 22nd.

Hope to see you all there!
Happy Reading!!!

The Count of Monte Cristo

I started reading it last night.

This is officially THE LONGEST book I’ve ever attempted to read!

(Well, except for my Bible, which is a little less than twice as long… and I’ve read that in 90 days so this should be a piece of cake! Right?)

1462.

Yes, fourteen hundred and sixty two pages long.

I don’t say this to scare you off. Please consider reading it with us! And to bait you along I have an extra copy that will go to the first person who contacts me!

Ready, set, GO! 🙂

Important Date Change

I’ve been told there is some confusion about when we are meeting in Dec. (And I know this is my fault and I’m sorry) BUT we are NOT meeting tonight, but Monday the 14th. I changed the date but I didn’t make it clear or call attention to the fact that I switched. Please don’t come tonight BUT please DO come on the 14th!! If you know anyone else who also was confused please share with them as well.

thank you and happy reading!

Schedule update

We have one more book for 2009:

The Code of the Woosters by PG Wodehouse on Monday December 14th at 7:00pm at my house. (email me if you need directions)

Then in the first half of 2010 we’ll be reading:

Note: we are not meeting in January, so plenty of time to get started on…

The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas for February 22nd at 7:00pm. We will be meeting at Sarah J’s house. (email me if you need directions) Several people have told me this is their favorite book, a 10 book! I’m excited to get it started and see what it’s all about!

Muslims Christians and Jesus by Carl Medearis AND Miniskirts, Mothers and Muslims by Christine A. Mallouhi at 7:00pm on March 22nd at Paradise Bakery and Cafe. We’ve never done two books in one month before, but don’t worry. Pick one or the other, or you can read both! I would challenge you to read them both, I think it will make for a great discussion!

A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens at 11:00am on April 17th at Tea’s Me Cafe.

Many more great books will be read next year, thanks for all your great suggestions! I’ll be adding them to the schedule soon.

Happy Reading,
Sarah

P&P recap

Pride and Prejudice

PnP brought SEVEN of us together on Monday! (Well, actually 8, if you count the BRAND new little guy in attendance! He slept oh so peacefully thru our chatter.) Jane Austin has been a popular author in our club! She brings the biggest turnouts! (ahh, Christmas decor in the background! Love it!)

On a scale of 1-10 (as my sister says, “if there actually are books that are 10’s”) I’d give PnP a 9.5. The other Austin book we read, Persuasion, is still my favorite, scoring a 10 on my scale.) I had such a good time at the cafe with all these wonderful ladies I wish we met once a week!

I’ll admit I am no expert on books. I actually didn’t like reading much as a child or teen. It wasn’t until I got into my mid-twenty’s that I jumped on the reading bandwagon! Now I feel like I can’t get enough! I love our group because once we gather and start talking about the books I learn so much more about what I just read and all I missed! There are some pretty smart ladies who attend.

Cookies and drinks had by all. And of course a little TableTopics to go around!

I had a fantastic night out! Hope to see you all back next month for The Code of the Woosters by PG Wodehouse on Monday December 14th at 7:00pm at my house. Email me if you need directions. (It’s also our annual Christmas Party!)

I’ll be posting an updated schedule in a day or two so don’t forget to check back here soon!

Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving Eve and I wish you all a very Happy Thanksgiving!!!
